William Walter “Bill” Palmer, 80, of Derry, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, February 16, 2017 with his loving wife Joyce by his side. He was born July 7, 1936 in Latrobe a son of the late Hue Eliot and Ida Mae (Hause) Palmer. He and Joyce raised 5 children in the house that he built for them. He was a hardworking man and worked for Teledyne Vasco for 35 years as an electrician until he retired. Along with his fulltime job he also ran his own business, Palmers Appliance Service from which he never truly retired from. Bill had a unique sense of humor that was with him until the end and was always ready with a joke. He was the kind of person that was always there to help others and was often called upon for his vast knowledge of HVAC and electrical work. Bill Attended Bible Baptist Church of Latrobe, PA where he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 2015. Bill had assurance that he would spend eternity in heaven when he passed and has now joined his youngest son Craig Allen Palmer who preceded him in death by 2 years. Besides his parents and son, Bill is preceded in death by 1 brother Jim Palmer, 4 sisters Peggy Graff, Mildred Lowman, Nancy Painter, and Eleanor Damico, and 1 grandson-in-law Zachary Wells. Bill leaves behind his wife of 62 years Joyce F. (Bridge) Palmer; one son William Palmer; three daughters Pam Goldberg and husband Tom, Cheryl Fickling, Tracy Nadeo and husband Dale; 11 grandchildren Jennifer and Dino Bottegal, Wendy and Fran Hirak, Tara and James Laughlin, Philip and Brenda Werner, Kelly Wells, Lee Ann Cates, Joseph and Danelle Hauser, Jerome and Jessica Nadeo, Kayla and Brooke Zimmerman, Carly and Christopher Ager, and Matthew Fickling, 21 great grandchildren; daughter- in-law Becky Palmer and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family has entrusted the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home, Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331 with the funeral arrangements.
