Norman R. Short

Norman R. (Dick) Short, 86, of Derry Twp., died on Monday, April 17, 2017 at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born February 28, 1931 in Torrance, a son of the late Norman Clair and Gladys Florence (Kunkle) Short. Prior to retirement Dick worked for Balco Machine in Blairsville. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Derry. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and bird watching. Besides his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his two brothers Walter and George Short, one sister Grace Quick and his best buddy Squeaky his dog. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Clara Jean (Conrad) Short of Derry; two children Dennis Short and wife Debbie of Derry and Robert Short and wife Carolyn of Homer City; three grandchildren Monica Newhouse, Keith Short, and Michelle Short; seven great-grandchildren Mike, Aubree, Alexis, Tyler, Carter, Hailey, and Ava and also many nieces, nephews, and friends. Family will receive friends for Dick’s Life Celebration 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday April 19, 2017 in the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home, Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Thursday April 20, 2017 in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen C. West as celebrant.
