Joseph P. Barberich

October 22, 1935 ~ January 15, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Joseph P. Barberich, 81, of New Derry, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born October 22, 1935 in Brenizer, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Matkovich) Barberich. Prior to retirement Joseph was a construction foreman for the John F. Casey Company. He served in the US Army and played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. Joseph was a member of St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church in New Derry, Laborer's International Union Local 1058 and the Derry Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed sports, gardening, hunting with his son, ice fishing and working on projects around the house, however; his main love was that of his wife, children and grandchildren. Besides his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his infant sister and two brothers Thomas and John Barberich. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Lois Jean (Bair) Barberich of New Derry; two sons Mark J. Barberich and wife Karen of Fredrick, MD and Craig D. Barberich and wife Kimberly of Leesburg, VA; three sisters Margaret Caldwell of Johnstown, Anne Marie Buckshaw and husband John of Coraopolis, and Bernadette Lamb and husband Jeff of Seward; three grandchildren Zachary, Caroline, and Grant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Family will receive friends for Joseph’s LIFE CELEBRATION 7-9PM Wednesday January 18. 2017 at the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home, Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331. The Latrobe Derry Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors in the funeral home 9:15 AM Thursday January 19 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM Thursday January 19, 2017 at the St. Martin Roman Catholic Church, New Derry. Interment will follow at the Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
