John Myers Obituary

John B. “Jack” Myers, Jr., 86 of Derry, Twp. died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Concordia at Bethlen, Ligonier. He was born November 22, 1937, in East McKeesport, PA a son of the late John B. Sr. and Anna C. (Walsh) Myers. Jack was a star lineman football player for East McKeesport High School. He had various jobs while in school including working at a gas station, sanding floors, and carrying hod for plastering. With the money he earned, he was able to buy a new car. He always kept his cars “shined up”. He was employed by Greyhound Food Management at Cleveland Chevrolet Plant, and was then transferred to Pittsburgh Fisher Body in West Mifflin as their Food Service and Vending Manager. In January of 1967, he was transferred to Baltimore Chevrolet Plant. In 1969, he was promoted to Food Service Director for John Hopkins School of Hygiene in Baltimore and was elected President of the International Food Service Association Board of Directors. He helped Essex Community College set up food service program which went from 4 to 400 people within a year. In 1977 he was honored by being named the Food Service Executive’s “Active member of the year” and received his Certified Food Executive award. In 1978, Jack moved back to Pittsburgh. He then purchased Port-A-John Rental Company and moved to Hillside. He later purchased Hainan Sanitation, Gailey Sanitation, 4th Ave. Confectionary, rental properties, and then formed J.B. Myers Enterprises. In 1980, he helped form the Pennsylvania Liquid Waste Haulers and was elected president. Jack was a US Army Veteran. He was a life time member of the Latrobe Elks, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and FOE Latrobe. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 515, Lions Club International, 50 plus years Mason, 32nd Degree Mason, and 52 years Shriners International. He enjoyed going to the local Latrobe restaurants with his friends, spending his winter months at his condo at Highpoint County Club in Naples, driving his convertibles around town and parades, and boating. Besides his parents Jack is preceded in death one brother Lloyd Myers; one sister Ellen Christian-Myers; and special friend Martha Krinock. Jack is survived by one son John B. Myers III (Amy Dolan) of Latrobe; two daughters Lori A. Dudzinsky and husband Joseph of Derry Twp.; Leslie A. Myers of Greensburg; two grandchildren Angelea Short Furey and husband Allen of Homer City and Vincent Dudzinsky of Derry Twp.; one great grandchild Jaxx Furey; and also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends for Jack’s Life Celebration, 2-8 PM,Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331 There will be a Masonic Service in the funeral at 7pm Wednesday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home 11AM, Thursday, June 27, 2024 with the Pastor James Henigin officiating. Interment will be in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Military services will be conducted at the cemetery by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard.
