Janis A. (McGinnis) George

Janis A. George, 70, of Derry, died on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital with her family by her side. She was born July 24, 1954 in Latrobe, a daughter of the late James H. and Martha A. (Vitale) McGinnis. Janis was a caregiver and prior to that she was a bartender the White House Club (Bohemian Club), and worked in receiving at Burlington Coat Factory. She was a member of the FJ Bow and Gun Club and the FOE Eagles, Derry. Janis enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crafts, and always being a helping hand. She loved dogs and specifically cocker spaniels. Besides her parents, Janis is preceded in death by husband James F. George in 2023; one brother James McGinnis and one nephew Matthew McGinnis. Janis is survived by her two children Scott A. Reott and Tara Campbell of Derry and Amy L. Stash and significant other Josh Chismar of Latrobe; one brother Timothy McGinnis of Latrobe; two sisters Patricia Bridge of Blairsville and Nancy McGinnis of Shelocta; five grandchildren Levi and Zachary Stash, Maelynn, Ian, Nevin, and Ally Campbell; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held for Janis at the Derry Ukrainian Club, 315 Dorothy St, Derry, PA 15627, 12-3PM, Sunday, January 26, 2025. A private graveside service will be held at Cole’s Cemetery, Derry The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements with the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home, Inc. 529 N.
