Jane Elizabeth “Janie” (Crusan) Burd, 85, of Derry, died at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital, surrounded by her family, Thursday, October 5, 2023.She was born September 23, 1938, in Derry, a daughter of the late Dennis and Dorothy (Thomas) Crusan. Jane was born and raised in Derry at 224 W Keeling Ave. and when married in 1957 moved to 226 W Keeling Ave. where she lived the rest of her life. She loved the area and all the wildlife and flowers around her house. She shared her home with her daughter, Josie, and son-in-law, Kenneth (Ken) Shepard, along with the love of her life, Grandson Maverick White. She considered herself truly blessed to be surrounded by her family who were so good to her. Jane owned “Burds Home Bakery” for 53 years and baked literally thousands of wedding cakes. She loved her job and all the wonderful people she worked for. Jane was a fundamental Christian by faith and tried to live accordingly. Jane said, “My life was very ordinary, but was filled with extraordinary people and extraordinary times. I was truly blessed” Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Joseph Burd, who was the father of her children; and her second husband Francis “Sonny” Hainan, and a special cousin Sallie who was like a sister to her Jane is survived by her children Josie Marie Shepard and husband Kenneth of Derry and Dennis Jay Burd of Greensburg; sister Linda Sue Warnick of Saltsburg; grandson Maverick White; and several Special nieces (thank you Adriane) and nephews; and some very special cousins; “daughter” Yvonne White and her daughters Megan and Erika. Family will receive friends for Jane’s Life Celebration, Sunday, October 22, 2023,12:30 to 3:30PM, at the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home, Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331. A funeral service will follow at 3:30PM in the funeral home with Rev. Larry Armstrong officiating.
