Donald P. McDowell

Donald P. McDowell, 82, of Derry Twp., died on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Loyalhanna Care Center, Derry Twp. He was born March 11, 1936 in Derry Twp., the son of the late Kenneth P. and Julia C. (Murphy) McDowell. Prior to retirement Donald had worked at ICI, Derry. He was a member of St. Martin Roman Catholic Church, life member of Derry Rod and Gun Club, and the Derry Ukrainian Club. Donald also was a past coach for the Derry Midget Football. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife Doris P. (Nolan) McDowell in 2013, one brother James K. McDowell, and one daughter Denise P. Valasko. Donald is survived by his three sons Dale P. McDowell of Derry Twp., Donald P. McDowell of SC, and Daniel P. McDowell of Derry Twp.; one daughter Diane P. McDowell of Vandergrift; two sisters Anna Marie Reed of Latrobe and Janet Jean McDowell of Derry Twp.; 8 grandchildren ; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews ,cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends for Donald’s Life Celebration, on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 4-8PM at the Matthew X. Merlin Funeral Home Inc. 529 N. Chestnut St. Derry, PA 724-694-8331. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM Tuesday October 2, 2018 in the St. Martin Roman Catholic Church, New Derry with the Rev. Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant.
