Gene R. Fannie Sr.

Gene R. Fannie, Sr., 87, of Derry, died on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. Gene was born on March 10, 1936 in New Derry, a son of the late Furry and Thelma (Friedline) Fannie. Prior to retirement Gene worked at Latrobe Steel Company for 39 years. He was a US Army Veteran. Gene was a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church, New Derry and the Derry Rod and Gun Club. He loved hunting, fishing, and going to his USW Local 1537 Buck Pool Dinner, and going to his two camps throughout the year. Gene attended all sports activities of his grandchildren and rooting for all the Pittsburgh teams. He actually enjoyed cutting his grass, weed-whacking, and keeping a neat and beautiful garden. Besides his parents Gene is preceded in death by his brother Larry Fannie. Gene is survived by his high school sweetheart of 63 years Pauline Elizabeth (Kelly) Fannie of Derry; one sister Maxine Joe of New Derry; Aunt Dottie Fannie; two sons Gene Fannie, Jr. and wife Hope and Mark Fannie and wife Sandy; five grandchildren Alexis Springer and husband John, Mario Fannie, Anthony Fannie, Faith Fannie, and Charity Fannie; three grand dogs Finn, Graham, Bella; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the St. Martin Catholic Church, 5694 PA-982, New Derry, PA 15671, 11AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024 with Rev. Salvatore R. Lamendola as celebrant.
